In Guéliz, fifteen minutes on foot from the Majorelle garden, the Residence Eden is not a classic hotel but an aparthotel: flats with a fitted kitchen and sitting room, and on the roof a pool facing the quarter's antennas and the Koutoubia minaret. A format for anyone wanting to cook, spread out with the family and keep the centre within walking reach.
Our verdict
The Residence Eden fits in a word Booking uses rightly: aparthotel. You do not rent a room but a unit, fitted kitchen, sitting room, dining table and sleeping corner, in a recent building in the Guéliz quarter. The address is rue Sourya, in the new town laid out with a ruler, fifteen minutes on foot from the Majorelle garden and its Yves Saint Laurent museum. It is the flip side of the medina riad: no patio or lane, but pavements, cafés, a station a few streets away, and the ease of arriving by taxi to the door. Decor plays new and light - cream tones, coral chairs, framed photos of palm groves and souks on the walls - rather than folklore.
The stay revolves around two strengths. The first is on the roof: a pool on the top floor, lined with sun loungers and parasols, open onto the Guéliz terraces with a minaret outlined on the horizon. You go up mostly late in the afternoon, when the heat drops. In the morning, the continental breakfast is also taken there, in the shade of potted palms. The second is in the unit itself: with its kitchen, its fridge and its coffee machine, you can shop, dine without stepping out and hold a meal budget. It is a format built for families and week-long stays who value dropping their bags in calm without giving up the centre, confirmed by the traveller score of 9.3 on Booking on more than two hundred reviews, with a peak at 9.6 for the welcome.
That leaves what you do not find here. This is not a character house: the building is correct and functional, without the character of an old riad, and the quarter is residential rather than picturesque. The rooftop pool is pleasant but stays modest in size, shared between residents on high-traffic days, and the water is not heated for winter evenings. There is no proper restaurant, only breakfast: for dinner, count on your kitchen or on the Guéliz tables, many two steps away. From around £94 a night depending on the season, you pay first for space, autonomy and location - not a postcard address. For a couple after romance or a stay inside the medina walls, better look elsewhere. For a family wanting space, a kitchen and Guéliz under their feet, the count adds up.
