Hammam, spa or massage: how to tell them apart
Three families of treatment, three moods - and a few pitfalls to know before you book.
The traditional hammam
The signature ritual: steam room, black soap, kessa mitt scrub, then argan oil massage. Approachable and worth a first go - especially after a day of walking or the desert.
Spa and rituals
A more enveloping setting and combined treatments - scrub, ghassoul wrap, massage - often over half a day. For those who want to take the time, as a couple or alone.
Massage
Argan oil, relaxing or firmer: targeted relief without the full hammam ritual. The shortest format when time is short.
Choose well, dodge the pitfalls
- The permanent '-50%' is anchor pricing. A real scrub + massage package runs about £35 to £48: judge by the price paid, not the discount on show.
- A '3 hr' duration usually includes the transfer. The treatment itself lasts more like 90 minutes (scrub + massage); the rest is the pickup and drop-off from your hotel.
- Prefer an address with strong reviews, high review count and the transfer included - more reliable than an anonymous low price. Some spas offer all-female staff.
