Brunch in Marrakech: addresses tested, not photographed
Brunch in Marrakech is a recent import: Marrakchis take their street breakfast (msemen 3-5 MAD), not sitting down for 100 MAD in an Instagram café. Nine out of ten brunch addresses in Guéliz play the flowery wall first. Eight addresses checked in July 2026, concentrated in Guéliz-Hivernage, served 8am-3pm, from the Moroccan breakfast at 65 MAD to the Bacha format at 190 MAD.
Brunch in Marrakech is a recent import. Marrakchis take their street breakfast (msemen at 3-5 MAD on the corner of rue Bab Doukkala, sfenj at 2 MAD in a popular café, baghrir and mint tea at home), not sitting down for 100 MAD in an Instagram café. The café-brunch format landed in Guéliz and Hivernage between 2020 and 2024, with a dozen or so new addresses opening. Nine out of ten play the flowery wall first. A handful serve a real table. We picked eight in July 2026, from the sit-down Moroccan breakfast at 65 MAD to the heritage format at Bacha Coffee at 190 MAD inside Palais Dar el Bacha.
A recent import, concentrated in Guéliz and Hivernage
Brunch is not a Marrakchi tradition. The format comes from Parisian and New York cafés. It landed in Marrakech on the expat and digital-nomad wave of the 2020-2024 years, almost exclusively in Guéliz and Hivernage. The medina has only three sit-down options: Bacha Coffee in the Palais Dar el Bacha (heritage + coffee), Cafe Clock in the Kasbah (cultural café with camel burger and storytelling) and the Moroccan street breakfast covered in our street food guide.
The budget goes from single to triple. A structured format at Patisserie Amandine costs 65 to 95 MAD. A speciality-coffee brunch at Blue Ribbon 100 to 150 MAD. A premium brunch at Lily Billy or Grand Café de la Poste 200 to 350 MAD per person. Bacha Coffee plays the heritage card at 190 MAD for the full format, with the queue on top.
Which brunch by your mood
Five uses, five registers. Brunch in Marrakech does not read as a single menu but as a choice of format and budget.
For a sit-down Moroccan breakfast
Two addresses where the Moroccan breakfast (msemen, baghrir, eggs in a tagine, honey, argan oil) is served sit-down, in a real café, at a gentler price than the premium brunch scene. Le Kilim (Guéliz, corner rue de la Liberté and rue Tarik Ben Ziad) holds an honest Moroccan breakfast with house granola and yoghurt pancakes. The price listed in 2023 (75 MAD the format) is probably out of date - to check on ordering, but the house stays in the lower half of the bracket. Cafe Clock (Kasbah, 224 Derb Chtouka) is the only real medina brunch alternative outside the palaces, with its signature camel burger, cooking classes and Hikayat storytelling at 6.30pm.
For a structured, affordable format
Patisserie Amandine (177 rue Mohammed El Beqal, Guéliz) holds the lowest bracket on the guide. Since 1997, the French bakery-patisserie has served breakfast formats at 65, 85 or 95 MAD until 12.30pm. French-Moroccan pastry (kaab el ghazal, ghriba, macarons, millefeuille). Americana Brunch & Cake (M Avenue, on the Guéliz-Hivernage line) plays 1950s American brunch with Moroccan touches: brioche-chia French toast, baghrir with amlou-caramel, cheesecake. Brunch from 100 MAD, generous portions, open 9am-midnight.
For a speciality-coffee brunch
Blue Ribbon (96 rue Mohammed El Beqal, Galerie El Beqal, Guéliz) shares the same Art Deco building as Farmers, +61 and Le Petit Cornichon. The brunch (egg bagel, shakshuka, French toast, banh mi, cinnamon babka) runs 100-150 MAD. The main draw is the speciality coffee and the house bread. The quiet inner courtyard suits steady remote work. Those who come mainly for sharp coffee will also find MARH Coffee Roasters (Oued Al Makhazine, Guéliz) on a 100% Ethiopian arabica card.
For a premium brunch
Two addresses when the budget climbs. Lily Billy (2 rue Loubnane, Guéliz, Opera Business Centre) serves eggs benedict in the classic sense in four variants (Healthy avocado, Royal ham-emmental, Nordic smoked salmon, Amsterdam bacon), hollandaise made each morning. Bright and settled room, expected budget 120-200 MAD. Grand Café de la Poste (corner Mansour Eddahbi and Imam Malik, Guéliz) is the colonial French brasserie set in the former post relay since 1920: red leather sofas, continuous service 8am-1am. Scrambled eggs, French toast golden to order, house jams. Average bill ~350 MAD, wine list. Decor more expected than the cooking. You come for the mood.
For the heritage, with the queue
Bacha Coffee (Palais Dar el Bacha, route Sidi Abdelaziz, medina) is the Singapore chain of the TWG group, settled in the pasha’s palace since 2019. Over 200 single-origin coffees, silver-pot service by staff in colonial uniform. ‘Marrakech’ breakfast format at 190 MAD (coffee + eggs + 2 pastries + juice + jams + fruit). The venue is as much of the draw as the card, and so is the wait. Regular queue of 40+ people, doors open 10am, arrive 30 minutes ahead if you want a table without queueing.
What we set aside, and why
SB Café (Guéliz) stakes it all on the pastel decor and the presentation calibrated for the photo. The substance does not follow. We do not keep it on the address book.
Brunch Terrasses (Hivernage, rue Camille Cabanan) plays Moroccan-Asian-American brunch on three cards in one. 2024-2025 reviews flag prices above average without the service to match.
Omazonia (Hivernage, Hotel Jadali) serves brunch only until 11am: it is an extended hotel breakfast, not a real brunch destination.
Azalai Urban Souk (Guéliz) suspended its brunch in September 2025, return announced but not confirmed in July 2026. The restaurant stays active as a modern Moroccan bistro (300-400 MAD/person).
La Trattoria (Guéliz) is a classic 1974 Italian. The ‘brunch’ mention comes down to a ‘1 bought = 1 free’ promotion - not a signature brunch address.
The Pavilion by the Pool brunch at La Mamounia (Sundays, 700-1,800 MAD depending on the format) sits in the palace bracket: it is covered in our fine-dining guide.
The Moroccan street breakfast (msemen at 3-5 MAD, baghrir at 3-5 MAD, sfenj at 2-5 MAD between 8 and 10am on rue Bab Doukkala or Derb Dabachi) is not a brunch in the sense of this guide - it lives in our street food guide.
In practice: days, timings, bookings
Booking. Essential at the weekend for Lily Billy, Blue Ribbon, Americana Brunch & Cake. Advised for Cafe Clock. No reasonable booking needed for Amandine, Le Kilim, Grand Café de la Poste outside high season. Bacha Coffee takes no bookings: the only strategy that works is to arrive 30 minutes before the 10am opening, or come in late afternoon outside the weekend.
Timings. Amandine 8am-12.30pm for breakfast. Blue Ribbon 9am-6pm on weekdays, 10am-4pm on Sundays. Lily Billy 9am-3pm on weekdays and 9am-5pm at weekends. Bacha Coffee from 10am. Cafe Clock during the day. Grand Café de la Poste continuous service 8am-1am.
Alcohol. Rare at brunch in Marrakech. Grand Café de la Poste and Le Kilim carry a wine list, to confirm on the brunch slot. The other addresses on this guide are dry. No mimosa tradition.
Prices to keep in mind. Amandine 65-95 MAD. Le Kilim around 100 MAD to confirm. Cafe Clock 100-150 MAD. Blue Ribbon 100-150 MAD. Americana from 100 MAD. Lily Billy 120-200 MAD to confirm. Bacha Coffee 190 MAD for the full format. Grand Café de la Poste 350 MAD average bill.
In high season (April-May, September-October, European school holidays), double the booking margin everywhere. Saturday and Sunday morning, the Bacha Coffee queue regularly runs over an hour between 11am and 1pm.
