Hot-air balloon over Marrakech

Before daybreak, a 4x4 heads for the plain north of Marrakech. That is where, far from the ramparts, the balloons inflate in the first light, and it is the only moment you get to see the city and the Atlas the way the birds do.
The flight lasts a solid hour, disarmingly smooth: no vertigo, no turbulence, just the breath of the burner cutting the silence and the landscape scrolling past slowly - palm grove, earthen villages, fields, and the Atlas wall on the horizon, snow-capped in winter. Several balloons rise together: you are never alone in the sky, but it does not spoil the show.
