Frequently asked questions
Can you come to Marrakech on holiday with your dog?
Yes, but it is heavy going for a short stay: reckon four to five months of steps (chip, rabies vaccine, titre) and heat that is hard for a good part of the year. It mostly makes sense for a long stay or a relocation.
What documents to enter Morocco with a pet?
An ISO electronic chip, a valid rabies vaccination (at least 30 days before departure) and an international health certificate issued shortly before the trip by an official vet (exact window to check).
Is a test needed to come back to Europe with a pet?
Yes. The rabies antibody titre (a blood test) is mandatory to come back to the EU, to be done at least 30 days after the vaccine and before departure, since Morocco is classed a rabies-risk country. Without it, the return is blocked.
Which dog breeds are forbidden in Morocco?
Mastiff-type molosses, pit-bulls, bulldogs and related breeds are forbidden entry. To check for your pet before starting the steps.
How much does it cost to fly a pet?
On Royal Air Maroc, about £55 (640 MAD) in the cabin (under 8 kg) to Europe, to book 48 hours ahead. The hold follows IATA rules and rules out squashed-muzzle breeds.
Where to leave your dog or cat in Marrakech?
Several kennels offer day care or overnight boarding, from around £10 (100 MAD) a night, on booking with an up-to-date vaccination record.
Do Marrakech hotels accept pets?
Some do, often with a supplement and under conditions. It is not the rule. Always confirm the pet policy at booking.
