The Radisson Blu takes the upper floors of the Carré Eden, the shopping centre on avenue Mohammed V, the axis linking Guéliz to the medina. An international-brand 5-star: one hundred and ninety-eight balcony rooms, a large courtyard pool, a spa, a kids' club. Its location picks up one of the best scores in town. The price is up for debate.

Our verdict

Few Marrakech hotels post an address this urban: the Radisson Blu takes the upper floors of the Carré Eden, on avenue Mohammed V, the artery running from Guéliz to the Koutoubia. It is an international-chain 5-star, with what that promises in kept standard: one hundred and ninety-eight balcony rooms laid out around a large courtyard pool, and the full services of a global brand.

The address first: hard to be more central, on foot from the Guéliz cafés as from the top of the medina. The rest answers the same logic, that of a hotel where you can do everything without stepping out: work at a seminar, occupy children, recover from a flight, swim then get a massage, without ever looking further than the lift. It is the comfort of a well-tuned machine, predictable from one Radisson to another, that you look for precisely when you do not want a bad surprise.

That comfort has a very concrete cost. A Radisson stays a Radisson: the decor is careful, contemporary, faultless, but without the singularity you often come to Marrakech for, and the bill is that of a 5-star. It is the brand’s market, you pay for reliability and centrality, not for an atmosphere found only here.

The Radisson Blu aims clear: the business traveller, the family, anyone wanting a central, surprise-free base, pool, spa and shops at the door, under a brand they already know. For that programme, the location on avenue Mohammed V remains a hard-to-argue point. You come for a sign, an address and full services. On that game, few 5-star hotels in town are this central.

What sets it apart

  • Above the Carré Eden The hotel crowns the shopping centre on avenue Mohammed V: boutiques, restaurants and a mini-market at the building foot, tram and taxis at the door. A firmly urban address.
  • Location, its best score Avenue Mohammed V links Guéliz to the medina: the new-town cafés on one side, the Koutoubia and Jemaa el-Fna on the other, within walking reach.
  • A large 5-star's kit Large courtyard pool, spa with hammam and Iyashi dome, gym and classes, kids' club, meeting rooms, parking, table and bar. The full standard of a global brand.
  • 5-star, at 5-star prices The reviews' weak point is value for money, Wi-Fi right behind. The decor is clean and contemporary, without the character of a riad: you pay the brand and the address.

Worth knowing

166-176 avenue Mohammed V, in Guéliz, above the Carré Eden shopping centre. The new-town cafés are on foot, the Koutoubia and Jemaa el-Fna a fifteen-minute walk or five-minute taxi, the station five minutes, the airport four kilometres. One hundred and ninety-eight balcony rooms. Large courtyard pool, spa with hammam, Iyashi dome and massages, gym, kids' club, meeting rooms, table and bar. Buffet breakfast offered. Free Wi-Fi, parking (with valet). Contemporary international-brand decor, no Moroccan character.
