A Marrakech weekend runs on two nights: you arrive Friday evening, leave Sunday on the afternoon flight. Enough for the medina, a garden and an evening in the desert. Too short for everything. The thread is built for a break, not a monuments race.
One address for two nights, no repacking: you settle in, you do not chase the clock. Every stop is flagged with its hour, and Agafay books the evening before. Best lived March to May or September to October, when desert evenings stay mild.
Friday evening: settling in

Drop-off at the riad, breather. Most keep the bags if the room is not ready.
Koutoubia and rooftop at sundown
The minaret as a marker, then a rooftop for the sunset on the terraces, the Atlas in the distance.
Dinner on Jemaa el-Fna
The square at night: the halqa, those performance circles, the stalls lighting up, the grill smoke. You dine at a wooden table, you take the pulse.
Saturday: the medina and Agafay
~6 kmThe full day: the medina in the morning, a garden break in the afternoon, then Agafay for the sundown and dinner.
Souks and Ben Youssef Medersa
The souks in the morning quiet, dyers and blacksmiths, then the medersa: marble courtyard, basin, stucco and cedar. Reopened after restoration in 2022, open from 9am. Entry around 50 dirhams (£4).
Lunch at Mouassine
A shaded table before the afternoon.
Le Jardin Secret
On Mouassine street, a 19th-century garden restored: Andalusian plan, fountains, and a tower for the rooftop view. Entry around 80 dirhams (£7).
Departure for Agafay
Riad pick-up, booked the evening before. The town fades, the stone plateau begins 45 minutes south-west.
Quad or camel, then sundown
One hour of quad or camel on the plateau, the Atlas in the background, the light grazing the hills. Not the Sahara and its dunes - saying so skips the letdown - but the air changes.
Dinner under the stars
Table set at the camp, a bit of music, then the sky given back to the stars. Back around 10pm.
Sunday: at slow pace
~1.5 kmSunday, with the plane in mind: a palace at opening, Jardin Majorelle, a brunch, and time to head back without rushing.
Palais de la Bahia
At opening, before the groups: the grand courtyard and the harem apartments, painted cedar and zellige. The visit is short, but the morning makes it quieter. Entry around 70 dirhams (£6).
Jardin Majorelle and YSL museum
Fifteen to twenty minutes by taxi from the medina. The Majorelle blue, the bamboo, the basin. The Yves Saint Laurent museum next door (separate entry). Ticket booked online, per slot. Garden around 170 dirhams (£14).
Brunch and last wander
A brunch on the Guéliz side or in the medina, then time to pick up the luggage before transfer.
To the airport
Transfer twenty minutes from town. On Sunday, traffic can catch you out: plan margin.
Worth knowing
- Direct flight from Europe: aim for a Friday arrival before 6pm, and a Sunday return after 5.30pm to save the day.
- The riad generally keeps the luggage on Sunday, after room check-out.
- Agafay to book the evening before, bring a warm layer, the plateau cools fast at sundown.
- Jardin Majorelle ticket to book online, per slot.

How to adapt it
Not tempted by the desert? Keep Saturday evening in the medina: a hammam, a rooftop, a candlelit dinner. Agafay will wait for a next stay.

If the plane lands after 9pm, keep Friday for a dinner near the riad and start Jemaa el-Fna on Saturday morning.
