Yves Saint Laurent Museum
Less a museum than a setting. You come as much for the Studio KO building as for the dresses - and the collection, rotating, never shows everything at once.
History & context
Inaugurated in 2017 by the Fondation Jardin Majorelle, the museum holds part of the haute couture archives of Yves Saint Laurent.
The couturier and Pierre Bergé had a deep tie with Marrakech, where they had saved the neighbouring Jardin Majorelle. The building, by the French-Moroccan studio Studio KO, plays on a brick façade with curves woven like fabric - textile, right down to the stone.
Inside, the couture room shows a rotating selection of the thousands of garments and accessories in the collection. You never see it all: a choice that turns every visit into a unique hang.
You never see the whole collection. That is what makes you want to come back.

Studio KO's architecture

The haute couture room

Visitor tips
Book your ticket online and come at opening: numbers rise fast in the morning. Combine with the Jardin Majorelle, right next door.
Wednesday (closed), and turning up without a ticket: they are sold online, in advance.

- Photography not allowed in the haute couture rooms, to protect the textiles. Façade, patio and café are fair game.
- The collection rotates, and several exhibitions rotate too: check the programme before you come.

In Guéliz, the new town, on Rue Yves Saint Laurent - minutes from the Jardin Majorelle. Fifteen minutes by taxi from the medina.
