The easiest desert escape from Marrakech: a pool facing the Atlas, no overnight. Cheap formats mostly earn the trip for the setting. For a real relaxing day - decent lunch, heated pool, quiet - premium camps like Inara earn their price.
About forty minutes south-west of Marrakech, the Agafay Desert is not the Sahara: no great dunes, but a stone desert, ochre hills and the Atlas range as a backdrop. It is the easiest one-day escape from town - and, for a few years now, people have been coming mainly for the pools.
The principle is simple: a camp opens its pool and its loungers to you for the day, no overnight. You arrive late morning, have lunch on site, enjoy the view until mid-afternoon - sometimes longer if you stay for sunset. Many formats add, as options, a quad or camel ride. Some, in the evening, a dinner show.
On budget, watch out for teaser prices. The £13-£17 formats exist, but they are often stripped down: quad or camel extra, sometimes the pool itself, and drinks never included. Shared transport gets recurring complaints (delays, commercial stops). A full and honest day comes closer to £38-£56.
