The Domaine des Remparts is a garden before it is a hotel: two hectares of palm grove and olive trees, with an Atlas view, on the Fès road on the outskirts. Here, each unit has its walled garden, terrace and fireplace. Two pools, a spa, a free shuttle to the centre. An intimate green 5-star, closer to rest than to the large resort.
Our verdict
At the Domaine des Remparts, you enter a garden first. Two hectares of palm grove, olive trees and bougainvillea, with the Atlas line in the distance, on the Fès road, on the outskirts of the city. The hotel, about forty rooms and suites, scatters rather than rises: each unit sits on its own patch of green, off the neighbours.
That garden stance sets the tone of the stay, turned to rest. Two pools, one heated, stretch among the palms. A spa with hammam and a Moroccan table, Le Tibipt, round out the whole, without the buzz of a large resort. The house stays small, and it shows in a welcome and cleanliness travellers rate very high. You come here to slow down, read in the shade, swim, get a massage.
The address has a caveat known to outskirts hotels: you are not at the core of Marrakech. The centre is four kilometres away on the Fès road, which needs planning. The house knows it and offers a free shuttle, five runs a day, which settles a good part of the problem. For the rest, this is a contemporary boutique hotel, careful but without the palace status or the character of an old riad.
The Domaine des Remparts speaks to those who prefer green and silence to the medina’s clamour: the quiet of a garden, the intimacy of a room with private terrace, the comfort of a 5-star, without the scale of a large resort or the price of a palace. The free shuttle settles the round trips to town, and you leave those slow days with the feeling of having stayed in a house rather than in a hotel.

Two pools (one heated), spa with hammam and massages, gym, yoga platform, tennis court, two restaurants including Le Tibipt. Play area and kids' meals. Parking, free Wi-Fi well rated. Small-scale contemporary boutique hotel.
