La Ferme El Dar

On a road where you pay for the calm in kilometres, La Ferme El Dar has the advantage of coming first. Six on the Ourika road counter, eight from Jemaa el-Fna, fifteen minutes by car: half the distance of the km-11 estates, and that settles a big part of the debate. Its clients return the favour. At 9.4 out of 10 on more than sixteen hundred reviews, it is not just the best-rated on the road, but the only one whose score rests on a volume that means something. None of its neighbours reaches four hundred comments, and the smallest are judged on about thirty. Its location, scored 9, is the only one in the area travellers do not punish.

Here, the word ‘farm’ covers real work: olive oil, argan oil, vegetables and fruit go from the land straight to the kitchen. Olive trees, palms, a lawn, and animals moving around - including a peacock that has taken to perching on the thatched roof of the pool bar, which gives you a sense of the place’s noise level. The architecture plays contrast: a large thatched sitting room, hanging pottery and red rugs, and next to it a glass-and-steel veranda, black-and-white chequered floor, potted palms, serving as the restaurant and opening wide onto the pool.

Lodging is the real point. There are rooms, with a private patio, but what brings you here are the tents pitched in the garden: private entrance, barbecue, and for some a pool of their own. A caidal tent stands at the edge of the main pool. How many rooms in total? Sources say nine or fourteen, and the gap probably comes from how the tents are counted. We did not get a firm number. The spa rounds out with a hammam, a sauna and a massage room, no rate sheet posted. On site you ride, quad, play billiards. The Ourika valley, to which this road leads, starts an hour from here and visits on a day trip.

Three things to know before booking, and they belong to the country more than to the house. The pool water is never heated, and February clients are clear on this point: you sit next to it. Neighbourhood dogs bark at night, which is the lot of farm estates and surprises those who arrive expecting total silence. Finally, tents nearest the restaurant catch service noise in the evening. If you come to sleep under canvas, ask for one set apart.

One last point, less pleasant. La Ferme El Dar has no working official site: the domain it used is dead, and an almost identical address without a hyphen now redirects to a booking platform that has nothing to do with it. We do not link it here, and you should not leave payment details there. Phone numbers circulating contradict each other by platform. Go through Booking or the house’s social feeds, which are active. It is a communication oversight more than a house flaw, but it has a concrete consequence: several search engines still list this establishment as closed, and two platforms show it unavailable July to December, when Booking accepts bookings normally. Check your dates directly with the house before you commit.
