The Park Hyatt is the contemporary take on the Marrakech luxury resort: a broad complex at the edge of the Al Maaden golf course, south of the city, cut through with water gardens and reflecting pools. Rooms and villas in a wood-and-earth design, one of the largest spas in town, several pools, a real kids' club. A branded 5-star, comfortable and family-friendly, off the medina.

Our verdict

Against the riads and the palaces of the centre, the Park Hyatt offers another form of luxury: that of the large contemporary resort. Set at the edge of the Al Maaden golf course, south of the city, it lines up earth-coloured cubic volumes along planted gardens and long reflecting pools. You sleep in rooms or in one of the villas, most with a private pool and a fireplace, in a decor of walnut, marble and warm tones.

What strikes is the scale and the comfort. On that ground, the score travellers leave sits among the highest you can read in town: spacious rooms, noble materials, full kit. The house cares for families most of all, with a kids’ club, a pool and meals thought through for the little ones, which sets it apart in its class.

The price to pay, in every sense, is the location. The Park Hyatt is at the golf, at a decent distance from the city, and each outing means a car or a shuttle. This is a big chain address, with a polished but international design, without the character of a riad. Wi-Fi, moreover, disappoints more than one traveller. What you book here is the estate and its comfort, not an address at the city core.

Who is this place for? Families, golfers, lovers of large quiet estates who find pools, an exceptional spa, a kids’ club and villas here. The trade-off is simple: the distance to the city, to accept, and the contemporary register of an international brand. Anyone who is fine with that holds one of the most complete resorts in Marrakech.

What sets it apart

  • A resort at the golf edge A broad contemporary complex of earth-coloured cubic volumes, along water gardens, at the edge of the Al Maaden championship course. You sleep in rooms or villas, often with private pool and fireplace.
  • Pools and a large spa Several pools, one covered and heated, and one of the largest spas in Marrakech, turned towards hammam rituals. Comfort, in particular, picks up top scores.
  • Built for families Kids' club, play area, children's meals and pool, large villas: few resorts in town do as much for tribes. A choice apart in the class.
  • Far from the medina The address is at the golf, south of town, fifteen to twenty minutes by road from Jemaa el-Fna. You need to like the calm of an estate off the city and plan your trips.

Worth knowing

Al Maaden Golf Resort, south of Marrakech, along the golf course. You are on the outskirts of town, fifteen to twenty minutes by road from Jemaa el-Fna, about twenty minutes from the airport. Rooms and villas, many with a private pool and fireplace. Several pools (including a covered heated one), hot tub, one of the largest spas in town with hammam, sauna and steam room, gym and yoga, two restaurants. Full kids' club. Parking and valet. Free Wi-Fi, though it picks up a lower score than the rest. Contemporary chain resort, off the medina.
