Ten minutes from central Marrakech, on the Amizmiz road, the Selman lines up around sixty rooms and villas around an 80-metre pool and stables of pure-bred Arabian horses. Architecture signed Jacques Garcia, a 1,200 m² Chenot spa: an estate given to wellness, off the buzz.
Our verdict
The Selman presents itself as a palace given to horses and wellness, and that is what you find there. On the Amizmiz road, ten minutes from the centre but already in the countryside, the estate is built around a long 80-metre pool that reflects a black and theatrical architecture signed Jacques Garcia. Below, a stable holds a dozen Arabian thoroughbreds, visible from the terraces. That is the signature strength, the one no other address in town has: you take breakfast with horses in the view.
The rest holds up, on a house scale rather than a resort: sixty rooms, suites and villas only, service that keeps up (9 on Booking, an “exceptional” mention), and most of all the Chenot spa. Across 1,200 m², this is one of six worldwide under the banner: two hammams, heated pools, hydrotherapy, real supervised detox cures. You come here as much for the spa as for the hotel, and that is what sets the Selman apart from just another 5-star. The Garcia decor, for its part, divides: sumptuous for some, heavy for others, but held without half-measure.
Two honest reservations remain. The setting first: ten minutes by car from the centre, you do not run into the medina on a whim, and each outing is planned. Value for money next, the lowest score travellers leave, on a review base still modest for a house of this rank. From around £298 a night, you pay for a signature and a wellness pause, not a city-centre address - a logic it shares with other houses where the spa makes the stay.
What sets it apart
