The Sofitel Palais Impérial takes up a large plot of Hivernage, this 1920s quarter set between the medina and Guéliz, made of wide avenues, gardens and palaces. With more than three hundred rooms, the Palais Impérial is a hotel machine: the atmosphere depends on the occupancy rate and the groups on site, you cross people at breakfast and in the corridors, and you are far from the intimacy of a medina riad. The So Lounge livens things up, but it livens loud, and quiet is not guaranteed everywhere in high season. Put plain, this is a big brand hotel more than a character address. You book it for the space, the pools, the spa and most of all the walk to the medina, not for the charm of a patio to yourself.
