Quad biking in Marrakech
The classic thrill of Marrakech: cheap, no licence, guided, on the tracks of the Palmeraie and the Jbilet hills. It is not the deep desert and dust comes with the scenery - but as a first hit of adrenaline, it is unbeatable.
This is Marrakech’s most-booked thrill, and one of the cheapest: a half-day of quad biking on the tracks of the Palmeraie and in the Jbilet stone desert, about twenty minutes from town. No licence, no experience needed - just a helmet and the urge to kick up a bit of dust.
The format is well-oiled: transfer from the hotel, briefing and handling, then one and a half to two hours of riding, in groups formed by level, with photo stops and a mint tea break. The terrain mixes sand, rocky tracks and dry wadi beds, between palm trees and Berber villages.
Let us be clear on the setting: this is not the deep Sahara. The Palmeraie is partly urbanised, the ‘dunes’ are modest sand mounds, and Jbilet is a mass of arid hills. And dust is everywhere - come dressed for it and bring something to cover your face. That said, at this price and no licence, the thrill-to-budget ratio is unbeatable.
For more desert and a two-seater machine, the buggy is done mainly in Agafay. And if the noise and the petrol put you off, the same Palmeraie can be ridden in silence on an e-scooter.
