Off-road e-scooter in the palm grove
The gentle adventure: an off-road scooter, standing on fat tyres, along the palm-grove tracks. Less adrenaline than a quad, but no noise and no petrol - and open to anyone who can keep balance.
Standing on fat knobbly tyres, handlebars in hand: the off-road e-scooter is the quad without the combustion engine. You head into the Marrakech palm grove, about fifteen minutes north-east of town.
After a briefing and a few practice laps, you string sandy tracks between the palms, farmed plots and Berber villages, with a mint tea break. Reckon on about two and a half hours. Sporty without being technical: you only need to keep balance, as on a bike, and a guide rides along.
An honest word on the palm grove: it is no longer the intact oasis of the postcards. Nibbled by villas, hotels and golf courses, it has lost nearly a third of its surface in twenty years. What remains is a wide belt of palms and tracks, pleasant to ride - but you are not in a wild reserve.
Compared to the quad or the buggy, the scooter plays it gentle: silent, clean, accessible. You lose in adrenaline what you gain in quiet and eco conscience - perfect for families, couples and anyone put off by petrol engines. The same palm grove also runs at slow pace by bike, with breakfast at a local home. And the same e-scooter reaches the historic centre of town.
