Wakeboarding near Marrakech
Wakeboarding towed by a cable (not by boat) on a dedicated lake, open to real beginners. The turnkey format includes transport. Booking direct at the park is much cheaper.
About twenty minutes south of Marrakech, on the Ourika road, Waky is Morocco’s first cable park: a lake set up for board sports, open since 2015, at the foot of the Atlas.
The cable-park principle: you are not towed by a boat but by an overhead cable that loops the lake. Board on your feet - wakeboard, wakeskate, kneeboard or water-ski - you first learn to stand up, often kneeling, before staying on your feet. Vest and helmet are provided, the speed is dialled down for beginners, and falls are part of learning.
The bookable-online format includes transport, gear and supervision for about £80 - handy without a car. Coming direct, the park itself is much cheaper: sessions start around £17. Reviews mostly credit the transfer and the welcome. Value on the format is judged more middling, which stands to reason given the gap with the direct rate. On site, the Waky Bar facing the lake carries the day on.
