Pestana CR7 Marrakech
The rooftop pool, facing the Atlas · © Pestana CR7 Marrakech
The Pestana CR7 is the lifestyle hotel co-signed by Cristiano Ronaldo and the Pestana group, set on M Avenue, the new commercial artery. One hundred and seventy-four rooms in contemporary design, a rooftop pool facing the Atlas, a spa: this is the register of the large modern and lively hotel, opposite the riad, for anyone after urban comfort rather than old character.
Our verdict
The Pestana CR7 owns a clear stance, and it is better to know before booking: this is a contemporary lifestyle hotel, born of the partnership between the Pestana hotel group and Cristiano Ronaldo, and not a riad or a Moroccan palace. You are in the register of the international city hotel, with one hundred and seventy-four rooms in bare design, waxed concrete and clean lines, that travellers describe as spacious and spotless. The CR7 signature stays a brand mark rather than an overwhelming theme. The experience is that of a large modern hotel, efficient and lively.
The strong point, cited unanimously, is the rooftop pool: a basin lined with sun loungers, open onto a clear view of the Atlas mountains, that gives the place its strong moment late in the day. Add a spa, a gym and two restaurants, in a full-comfort logic. The hotel also opens onto M Avenue, the city’s new commercial artery, lined with restaurants and boutiques, on the edge of Hivernage and Guéliz: you step out on foot in the evening, in an urban and modern setting.
The trade-off is geographic and about mood. You are not in the medina or its atmosphere: the old town and Jemaa el-Fna are about ten minutes by taxi, and you sleep in a district of shops and avenues, not among the souks. It is also a large hotel, with the foot traffic and animation typical of that scale, opposite the calm of a small house. The score, solid on a very large review count, reflects a reliable rather than an exceptional address.
The Pestana CR7 speaks to a specific crowd: those preferring the comfort of a modern hotel, a rooftop pool and an urban neighbourhood life to the character of a riad. For a stay leaning to leisure and shopping, a trip with friends or an uncomplicated stop, the address holds its contract. For medina immersion or old-Marrakech character, it lands off the mark.
What sets it apart
- The rooftop pool A rooftop pool with sun loungers and an open view of the Atlas mountains: the strong point of the address, often cited in reviews, above a shopping district.
- Contemporary design, clean Modern rooms, waxed concrete, clean lines, spacious and spotless per travellers. An international city-hotel aesthetic, far from the traditional Moroccan decor.
- On M Avenue The hotel opens onto M Avenue, a hub of restaurants, boutiques and urban life. Handy for walking out in the evening, off the historic core of the medina.
- Large and lively One hundred and seventy-four rooms: this is a large hotel, with the atmosphere and foot traffic that come with it. You come for comfort and animation, not for intimacy.
